The Power of the Strength Zone

Ever wonder why some tasks are accomplished so easily, almost with very little effort, while other tasks seem difficult and laborious to complete? Ever get so engrossed in a task or project that you lose all concept of time?

All individuals have natural strengths and weaknesses. In our society, even from an early age, we are told to work harder to improve our weaknesses. Studies have shown, though, that maximizing your strengths actually improves performance and attitude far more than working to improve weaknesses.

We will discuss the value of working in a strength zone and how employees are much more highly engaged when given opportunities to work in their own strength zones. Do you know what your strengths are?

Understanding and applying strengths in the workplace falls under two ASTD core competencies – Integrated Talent Management and Coaching. Under Integrated Talent Management, supervisors and managers can be equipped to develop employees based on their natural strengths which can promote higher performing workplaces and support employee engagement. Through the Coaching competency, a supervisor or manager can help employees develop their short and long-term goals and plans based on an employee’s strength zone.
